Physics of Reservoir Rocks and Fluids

Students will be introduced to: methods of measurement and matching of petrophysical properties measured in the laboratory and the same properties from well-logs, with parameters that describe the change in fluid properties from surface to reservoir, in cases of production and injection, with the characteristics of a multiphase flow system in a porous rock.
Seismotectonics

To describe the basics on seismotectonics in different geodynamic settings on Earth, in particular in Croatia, in circum Adriatic region and in the Eastern Mediterranean, and to provide students general knowledge on field and lab methods used in evaluation of seismicity and seismic hazard, assessment of recent tectonic movements on local and regional scale, active stress regimes in the Earth’s crust, and in identification and characterization of active, seismogenic faults and seismogenic sources.

Within the frame of this subject the students specialized in geophysical engineering study the application of geophysical methods in the different exploration phases, as well as the principles and aspects of planning geophysical surveys. An additional aim of the subject is to familiarize the students with the working principles and use of geophysical measurement devices. / Introduction into a basic area of mineral exploration methods, including the theoretical background of geochemical sampling, the detailed discussion of different sampling and analytical methods, as well as the methods of data processing and interpretation. Completion of a geochemical exploration project, including field sampling, sample preparation, data processing and interpretation is an important part of the course.

Students will be shown examples of the great discoveries and how were the most important parameters defined that made these discoveries happen. They will be then instructed how to find the relevant data on the Internet and how to make a short presentation of the most important conclusions drawn from the studied literature. Students will then have to write a seminar paper on a chosen subject – as a rule certain exploration object is to be taken and studied in detail. These themes will be freely chosen by students, based on the offered selection of exploration objects.

UNIZG-RGNF are enrolling students at currently accredited Graduate study program Geology – Geology of Mineral Resources and Geophysical Explorations with 3rd semester Mobility window toward Miskolc/Lulea/Wroclaw (English) + including 15 ECTS credits of integrated cross-sectional activities, networking, and Alumni support.

Enrolment fee: Croatian citizens – MZO scholarship no additional fee (including mobility universities); non-Croatian students 1.000 €/ semester
